Dr. Barry L. Kayrell, Superintendent October 2012 Dear Parents, Students, Friends, and Community: I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Superintendent of the Hemet Unified School District. My name is Dr. Barry L. Kayrell, and I have had the privilege of serving in public education for the past 37 years as a teacher, coach, activities director, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction/Personnel, and as a Superintendent for the past 11 years. I am truly excited about joining a great team of educators that are dedicated to improving the education of the students we serve. I truly believe that our schools are the cornerstone of our democracy, and that it takes the combined support of our parents and greater community to optimize the educational opportunities of our students. In these tough economic times, it is truly imperative that all of us work cooperatively to maximize our resources and maintain well-rounded educational opportunities. Know that the Board of Trustees is committed to providing diverse educational options for all students including preschool programs, traditional K-12 programs, fine arts, career-technical, alternative education, charter options, special needs, GATE, athletic and co-curricular programs, ROTC, adult education, and after school programs. I am very excited to report that our teachers and administrators are working very hard to implement the 21st Century/ Common Core Standards. The math and reading language arts curriculum will be implemented during the 2013-14 school year, in preparation for state testing in the common core in 2014-15. I am also pleased to report our Tuesday late start times for our teacher collaboration time is off to a great start and is already yielding positive and meaningful results. I would like to close by thanking the Board and community for giving me this wonderful opportunity to serve the schools and greater community of Hemet. I would greatly appreciate your continued support of our educational endeavors, and urge you to actively participate in every aspect of our students' educational experience.
