About Us

Welcome to the West Valley High School web site.

West Valley High School is an accredited state-of-the-art, comprehensive high school.  West Valley High School serves approximately 1900 students, grades 9-12, representing a broad cross-section of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.  With its emphasis on Standards Based Education, integrated curriculum, and technology, West Valley High School represents a new direction for Riverside County Schools. The typical fixed-class structure of teacher as lecturer and students as observer gives way to a flexible, student-centered environment where students are actively involved in the teaching/learning process. An integrated curriculum enables students to understand and apply concepts from different disciplines and appreciate their common relationships. Merging technology with the traditional academic disciplines empowers students to become critical thinkers, capable of anticipating and adapting to change. WVHS has implemented many academic interventions to assist student's achievement. There is a conscious and consistent effort to increase the level of student progress and to promote lifelong success.

AVID--Decades of College DreamsAVID Program

AVID is a fifth- through twelfth-grade program to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. It has
a proven trackrecordinbringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap.  AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID targets students in the academic middle — B, C, and even D students — who have the desire to
go to college and the willingness to work hard.  These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are
falling short of their potential.  Typically, they will bethe first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families.  AVID pulls these students out of their unchallenging courses and puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation. For more information about the West Valley AVID program please contact your counselor. You can also read more online at www.avidonline.org.
