NOTES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

4 Year Plan

Want to plan your four years at West Valley use the attached worksheet to figure out what classes you need to graduate and other requirements required by the Hemet Unified School District. 4 Year Plan Worksheet

SPARC (Support Personnel Accountability Report Card)

The SPARC is a continuous improvement tool that gives a school site an opportunity to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to getting results. Modeled after the School Accountability Report Card (SARC), the SPARC has been developed by an advisory group of Los Angeles County counselors, counselor supervisors, counselor educators, and California Department of Education consultants. The West Valley High School SSPT (Student Support Personnel Team) recieved an Certificate of Commendation in April for their efforts on the SPARC.

California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE)

If the student is eligible to take the test, the student can earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma. The CHSPE consists of two sections: an English-language Arts section and a Mathematics section. If the student passes both sections of the CHSPE, the California State Board of Education will award you a Certificate of Proficiency, which by state law is equivalent to a high school diploma (although not equivalent to completing all coursework required for regular graduation from high school). There is a March and June WVHS administration of the exam remaining for the 2007-08 school year. Students can sign up for the CHSPE by visiting CHSPE and selecting West Valley High School as the testing location

California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS)

Every year usually in mid-Nov. students in grades 9 and 11 participate in the CHKS in their English classrooms. This is an opportunity for students to express their concerns about school safety. For more information, contact Mr. Pressley.

CAHSEE:

California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) - The State of California has mandated the exam in order to “ensure that high school graduates can use mathematics and read and write in English competently.” Beginning with the class of 2006, a student must pass both the English-Language Arts and Math sections of CAHSEE in order to earn a high school diploma.

NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a voluntary organization through which the nation's colleges and universities govern their athletics programs. It is comprised of institutions, conferences, organizations and individuals committed to the best interests, education and athletics participation of student-athletes. This section of the Web site contains more details about the Association, its goals and members, and corporate partnerships that help support programs for student-athletes.

If you are wanting to play a sport in college, you must be cleared in high school to play. Click on the type of University you are planning on attending to find out about membership requirements and waiver information.
