Programs at Whittier

Standards Aligned Curriculum

Here at Whittier, our curriculum is aligned to meet the CA Content Standards in all subjects. Our goal is to ensure that our students meet and/or exceed grade level expectations by the end of the school year.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader via the Renaissance Home Connect software allows parents and students to log in to a website and view their student's reading practice and progress towards goals. This program is a fun, easy-to-use and easy-to-understand web-based interface that allows the student, parent and teacher to share in the educational experience by viewing progress in certain Renaissance Place programs while outside of school.

Character Counts

Character counts gives kids--and their teachers-- a framework for ethical living. Simply, put, we can help people make better choices. The universal values the program teaches are called the Six Pillars of Character. The pillars include trustworthiness, responsibility, caring, respect, fairness, and citizenship.

S.A.F.E. Afterschool Program

The Students Achieving in Fun Environments (SAFE) program is funded by Proposition 49 voted on by the citizens of California to provide a safe and nurturing environment for youth following school dismissal. State funding, along with in-kind and/or direct funding from a variety of collaborative partners is intended to provide a safe and healthy environment for youth after school. Hemet Unified School District partners with Valley Wide Recreation, Hemet Public Library, the Kids Zone and other community agencies to provide meaningful afterschool activities.

The SAFE Program provides students in grades first through eighth extended learning opportunities from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. following regular school days. All site programs provide access to homework assistance, extended learning opportunities in math and language arts, and a standards-based physical education program.
