Mission:

To provide the students of RVMS support and interventions by implementing a needs based counseling program that incorporates individual counseling, small group counseling and large group classroom presentations to optimize their academic, career and social/emotional success at school.

Our program will be a proactive, preventative, positive outreach program for all of our students.

Implementation:

Academics
  • Access to Academic Counseling services through teacher/administrator recommendations and Counselor Referral Forms
  • Classroom presentations from grade level counselor regarding CST scores, specific grade level academic information, goal setting (AB1802)
  • Academic Intervention Counseling
  • Individual Academic Intervention Meetings for students referred
Social/Emotional
  • Access to individual counseling services through teacher/administrator referral and Counselor Referral Form
  • Large group presentations based on the social issues concerning our student body
  • Student Support Groups – small 6-12 week group sessions based student needs. Students placed in support groups based on referrals, discipline, interventions
  • Individual Counseling – one on one counseling offered to students in need to deal with personal issues affecting their school performance
  • U.N.I.T.Y Forum Events- Tolerance building and promoting diversity through peer led activities.  6th grade students will be the focus of the UNITY Forum activities.
Career Development
  • Provide students with grade appropriate career search goals
  • Utilize the computer lab to help all students research career options
  • Career day for 8th grade students
