Energy, Water and Resources ConservationEnergy, Water and Resources Conservation 2008 - 09 UpdateThe Hemet Unified School District Resource Conservation policy was adopted by the Governing Board on September 5, 2008. Resource conservation has been a major issue for many years but has become much more critical due to public concern for global warming, electrical shortages, serious water limitations, and the State’s critical budget crisis. Below you will find several documents that discuss the progress we have made thus far with our efforts in this area:
Energy, Water and Resources Conservation Policy
Facilities ImprovementsFacilities upgrades and improvements play an important role in this conservation project. Steps taken to reduce energy consumption through facilities include effective use of natural lighting in new schools, energy efficient design of new campuses, replacement of outdated lighting and electrical fixtures, improved insulation, repair and replacement of old heating and cooling units and improved overall maintenance of our facilities. Significant progress has been made in reducing energy consumption through these efforts. Resource Conservation CommitteeThe district formed a Resource Conservation Committee, as required by Board Policy 3511. The Committee meets on a regular basis to review Conservation projects status and to brainstorm on new ideas. Working CollectivelyWe all recognize we cannot achieve the highest level of savings through facilities upgrades amid improvements alone. To realized the full benefit of savings, we need to work together to also modify our behavior. The changes we are requesting are common sense things we typically all do at home. Things such as turning of unnecessary electrical devices when we leave, keeping doors closed when the air conditioning or heating is on and reducing the number of personal electronic appliances by placing them in a common area for the group to use. It is in our common interest to reduce or consumption of energy not only because of the current budget crisis the district is facing but because of the world-wide situation. It is the right thing to do for our future. Reducing the impact we make on our environment sets an example for our children and grandchildren and encourages them to conserve resources as a legacy for future generations. By taking a few minutes of each day to implement some simple individual and collective actions, we can do our small part here in Hemet Unified to conserve our resources and leave a better place for everyone. Energy Conservation ProceduresThe district's new Energy Conservation Procedures will illustrate how we can all help conserve. Working together we can make a positive impact on both the environment and our budget. |
