As the Hemet Unified School District enters the twenty-first century, it is the Governing Board's responsibility to ensure each child's education to the fullest of his or her potential by fulfilling four objectives:
- Vision: Establishing the vision for education in the District.
- Structure: Establishing the structure and environment to implement the vision.
- Accountability: Setting academic performance standards and providing services to assist those not experiencing success.
- Advocacy: Speaking out strongly for the public schools and their students.

Norms
- The Board's basic decision making frame is "what is best for students".
- Board members will debate issues with vigor, disagree when appropriate, but remain respectful of other board members and staff during the process.
- Each board member's viewpoint is valuable to the group and will be heard and respected.
- Each board member is responsible for expressing his/her viewpoint in an open and honest manner during the meetings and prior to a decision on any issue.
- Each board member commits to review materials prior to meetings and to fully prepare for each board meeting.
- Once the Board votes on an issue and a decision is reached, all board members will abide by the Board's decision.
- Board members will work with and through the Superintendent and staff to address concerns within the district.
- Board members will respect the administrative sphere of activity led by the Superintendent and the Superintendent and staff will respect the Board's sphere of activity in policy making and fiscal oversight.

Board Member Committee Appointments

Career and Technical Education:
The Vocational Education Committee maintains open lines of communication among high schools with career/technical education programs, the community and education partners such as MSJC and Riverside County Regional Occupational Program. The committee shares information and gives and receives input with regard to the various career/technical education initiatives in our valley. Meetings scheduled as needed, approximately 3 or 4 times a school year with the next meetings planned for January 24, March 21, April 11 and May 9, 2013, 5:00 – 7:30 p.m., in the PDSC Board Room.

Curriculum Council:
The Curriculum Council is composed of a majority of teachers and may include administrators, other staff with subject-matter expertise, parents/guardians, community members and students. The committee reviews, evaluates and recommends instructional materials for Board approval. Meetings scheduled in November, January and April, with the next meetings on January 31 and April 25, 2013, (November to be determined), 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in the PDSC Board Room.

District DATA Team:
The purpose of the District Data Team is to provide accountability oversight at the district level, as well as a communication tool to our stakeholders. The team will have a good understanding of the district schools yearly performance as based on the STAR Testing. They will analyze multiple assessment data throughout the year to chart ongoing progress. All data will be discussed in light of district and school initiatives that impact student progress. This committee meets three times a year. The committee is made up of district, school site, community, and board members. Meetings are scheduled for March 7 and June 13, 2013 (November to be determined), 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in conference room 304.

Facilities Committee:
The Board Facilities Committee consists of three appointed board members who meet periodically with the facilities staff to preview plans, designs, proposed school sites, renovations, and other facilities related issues. The purpose of the committee is to provide board input to the facilities staff prior to submittal to the entire Board. Meetings scheduled as needed usually on board meeting Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. in the superintendent's conference room.

Finance Committee:
The Finance Committee is composed of no more than three appointed board members who meet periodically with the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services and the Director of Fiscal Services. The purpose of the committee is to review financial and budget information, as well as to discuss and offer input on various financial matters, especially in regards to annual budget development. Meetings will be scheduled as needed to review Budget documents, Interim Financial Reports, and Unaudited Actuals.

Head Start Parent Policy Committee:
The Head Start Parent Policy Committee is a federally mandated committee composed of parents elected from each Head Start site and acts as advisors and works with the Governing Board and Head Start staff on issues related to budgets, policies, staff composition, curriculum and program delivery. The next meeting is January 10, 2013 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. at the Room 2 of the Preschool Office located at the old Hemet Elementary campus on Kimball and Santa Fe. Thereafter, meetings are scheduled for February 14, March 14, April 11 and May 9.

Recognition and Awards Committee:
The Board Recognition and Awards Committee meets yearly to select student recipients of HUSD Governing Board Scholarships prior to submittal to entire Board for approval. Meeting scheduled once a year in April.

Riverside County Committee on School District Organization (RCCSDO): The RCCSDO is administered by RCOE and is composed of two representatives from each of the five County Supervisorial Districts, plus one Member-at-Large, who serve four year terms. A principal duty is to appoint a Board Member to be the voting delegate for Hemet Unified School District to participate in the election of members to RCCSDO. The election is scheduled by RCOE on a yearly basis and is usually held immediately prior to the joint Riverside/San Bernardino County School Board Association meeting in October.

Technology Advisory Committee:
Hemet Unified School District understands that technology supports effective communication and efficient use of resources as well as providing a conduit for data-driven decision making. The purpose of the committee is to provide comment and advice on the direction of infrastructure - purchases, back end needs, network, compatibility, hardware, etc. In addition the committee will provide feedback on proposed professional development - targeted personnel, targeted programs, timelines, budget, etc., and will advise administration about software choices, learning tools, curriculum integration, teacher delivery tools, etc. The committee will meet as needed, approximately two or three times a year.

Wellness/Nutrition Committee:
The Board Wellness/Nutrition Committee consists of appointed board members who meet regularly with staff from Educational Services and Nutrition Services to provide board input into the nutrition and wellness policies and practices prior to submittal to the entire Board for approval. Meetings scheduled February 7 and April 18, 2013 with (October meeting to be determined), from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in the PDSC Recruiting Center, Room 201.
